Ready to take on the pet grooming for your pooch? Most dog grooming can be done by owners if they know what they are doing and have the correct supplies on hand.

You should always have everything you need at hand before you get ready to do any grooming. This will prevent you from having to stop the process and hunt down the clippers, shampoo or brush. Many dogs get a little nervous during any grooming process and when you are completely organized and ready to groom it will serve both of you well and eliminate some of the nervousness on the part of the dog and the owner.

A non-slip mat will help with the grooming process and the dog should be positioned at a height that makes it possible for the groomer to reach everything without having to bend over. Place your hand under her belly and the thumb of your other hand under her collar.

Begin pet grooming by cleaning your dog’s face. Look in her ears, eyes and at her teeth about once a week. Always praise your dog for sitting quietly and give her little pats of reassurance. You can use a cotton ball and water to clean around your dog’s eyes. Another cotton ball can be used to clean the inside flap of her ear. Do not reach too far into the ear itself. Use a clean cotton ball for each part of the grooming process.

The next step in pet grooming is the teeth. This is a part of dog grooming that can be uncomfortable for both of you at first. Once you go through the routine a few times you will both be at ease and the process will go smoothly. You can use a specially made toothbrush and a toothpaste or gel that is made for dogs. Diluted salt water is also effective. This should be done once a week and a vet should check your dog’s teeth at least once a year.

When it is time to bathe your dog you can use the tub or buy a bath tub designed for dogs. Purchase a good shampoo and be sure to rinse really well to avoid skin irritations. A non-slip mat will help your dog stay in place and after towel drying you may want to use a hair dryer set on a low speed to hasten the drying process. Some dogs become agitated with the noise of the hair dryer so this is a step you may decide to omit.

There are dogs who thoroughly enjoy being brushed and others who are totally against the idea. The best thing you can do is to begin this part of pet grooming as soon as you bring the puppy home. When approached in this manner your dog will get used to being brushed and will learn that it is just a part of his normal daily or weekly routine.

Dog grooming is not difficult and can be one more way to bond with your pet and form a healthy relationship./pp class=”articletext”a href=”http://www.articlesauce.com”Article Source/a: http://www.articlesauce.com/pp class=”articletext” /pp class=”articletext” Dustin Cannon is owner of a href=”http://www.justarticlesvip.com” target=”_blank”Just Articles VIP /a and writes on a variety of subjects.
Gastrointestinal and immune diseases are epidemic. There are over 150 million domestic cats and dogs in the United States alone! If only 10% of them are unhealthy that represents some 15 million cats and dogs. It is good to be a veterinarian today.

Cats and dogs suffer with; Allergies, Arthritis, Diabetes, Constipation, Crohns Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Kidney and Urinary Infections, Feline Leukemia, and Dog Cancer, to name just a few of the human diseases and disorders afflicting them.

How many people and pets do you know who are taking multiple medications? Do you know any person or pet that has been cured by taking medication? Me neither. It would seem medications are not the answer. So what is?

Well, self control, for starters. Do you really think a few pharmaceutical pills can make up for a lifetime of bad habits? And what toll do both of these take on future generations? Clearly, they come with a high price.

What exactly do we share in common with our pets? We breathe, eat, drink, and sleep. We live ever more stressful lives. Within these most basic shared elements lay the answers to: Why?

The United States population doubled since 1950! Housing, feeding and transporting 300+ million people comes at the expense of cutting down billions of acres of oxygen giving forests.

AIR: Increasingly, each generation since 1950 is breathing a lot less oxygen and a lot more carbon dioxide. Chemical cleaners can be very toxic, especially to pets walking and breathing nearest the floor. These chemicals can burn. Pets often lick their paws to remove the burn only to ingest the chemicals. These can not be good things, but they are not the most pressing issues.

WATER: Bottled water has become a multi-billion dollar industry because we rightfully fear the innumerable chemical residues commonly found in tap water; let alone what even more dangerous chemical combinations these toxic residues might become. This is a biggie, but not the biggest!

We are multi-tasking our tails off, juggling bills, work, family, home, relationships- now that is stress! Where sharing full course meals daily with family was once common, meals have been reduced to a necessity; mostly ingested on the fly, or in front of the computer.

SLEEP: Deprived does not begin to describe our collective condition. People are overworked, underpaid and sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation contributes to stress. Pets are very sensitive to your stress. It adds to theirs.

FOOD: Out of necessity, it has become a Fast Food World, loaded with empty calories, and refined sugars; meaning they contain little to no fuel to support our bodies immune systems. We turn to caffeine and refined sugars for a buzz. Coca Cola sells 500 million bottles every day! What does not help keep us healthy makes us unhealthy!

If you want to get healthy, and stay healthy, you only need to look at what healthy minded people are doing. While they struggle with many of the same stresses, they are minimizing their health risks by not drinking, cooking, and probably not even bathing or doing laundry in tap water. While they may cheat from time to time, they seldom eat fast foods, junk foods, or drink colas; many have sleep numbered beds and air purifiers.

They shop in natural food markets, which also offer alternative foods for cats and dogs. And while that is a step in the right direction, the best and simplest way to restore and maintain your pets health is to look at what their wild relatives eat- fresh kill with a side of soil based organisms (SBOs)!

When a house cat or dog gets a chance, they will head right for grass and dirt. Why? They instinctively know that grass and dirt contain microflora and soil based organisms (SBOs) that are essential digestive aids. SBOs are in fact, the missing link to restoring and maintaining GI health.

Quote: Fully 90% of all disease is caused by an unhealthy intestinal system. Royal Society of Medicine Great Britain

Most domestic cats and dogs have little exposure to grass, besides, urban and most suburban grass is bathed in pesticides, insecticides, chemical runoff, and inorganic fertilizers. The SBOs you and your pets need must now be grown and harvested under strict laboratory conditions.

The next best diet to fresh kill for cats and dogs consists of raw (or very lightly cooked) fish, chicken and meat that are antibiotic and hormone free. Seeming miracles take place when raw foods are given along with SBOs, vital oils and digestive enzyme .

SBOs are helping people and pets regain and maintain their health and vitality, even those struggling with the effects of chemo-therapy and toxic cancer medications.

That stated, millions of people (and pets) are so weakened from long term exposure to poor choices, as well as (and this being no fault of theirs) because they were born to generations of ever weakened mothers, or weaned prematurely from mother’s milk.

While everyone should supplement their diets with omega 3 based oils, and digestive enzymes, pets and people who are chronically ill need these, plus anti-inflammatory products. Until inflammation is resolved, no food, vitamin, mineral, or medication can work as intended. This fact is overlooked by most veterinarians and doctors.

Individually any of the basic stress related elements we share with our pets can cause disease. Collectively, they represent a stacked deck. It is often said that: Knowledge Is Power. Now that you have it, what will you do with it?/pp class=”articletext”a href=”http://www.articlesauce.com”Article Source/a: http://www.articlesauce.com/pp class=”articletext” /pp class=”articletext” The author of this article is Stephen Becker, a principal in a href=”http://www.vitalityscience.com” target=”_blank”Vitality Science/a, a company dedicated to natural alternatives to restore and maintain pet health.

Like all animals, as dogs age they tend to develop health problems unique to older dogs. Many dog owners have a difficult time accepting this fact and think that their lively pooch is not an older dog and will not have health problems.

Dogs can, however, show signs of aging as early as seven years old. Older dog health problems generally affect larger breeds earlier than small breeds that tend to show signs of aging around 10 to 12 years of age. The fact is that senior dog health problems will eventually be a concern for every dog owner.

Common Health Problems Facing Older Dogs

All dogs are different and, depending on their size, breed and activity level, will exhibit health problems differently. However, there are common health issues that may manifest in all senior dogs including the following:

Joint and bone problemsbr / -An overall reduction in their metabolism br / -Difficulty with their eyes and earsbr / -Liver and kidney dysfunctionsbr / -Skin becomes thin and less pliable while the coat becomes mottled and patchybr / -Problems with teeth and gums

Unlike a little puppy who has an endless supply of energy, an older dog will tend to slow down and take longer to lay down or stand up. Instead of bounding up the stairs your senior dog might take each stair one at a time.

Your dog may develop arthritis, an inflammation of the joints causing pain and discomfort, which is generally the cause of this slowing down. There are a host of anti-inflammatory drugs that your veterinarian can suggest to reduce the discomfort caused by arthritis.

In many cases, an older dog will have problems with their eyes as they develop cataracts or even glaucoma. A cataract will become obvious to the owner as the eyes have a cloudy appearance and tend to reflect light. Senior dogs may also develop glaucoma, an increased amount of pressure on the eyes, and can cause more serious problems if left untreated.

The entire circulation system and many of the major organs are taxed in older dogs. The heart, lungs, liver and kidneys all become less efficient and the immune systems can become weak and vulnerable to viruses and bacteria.

Serious health problems may develop in your senior dog as some of the symptoms develop gradually. It is your responsibility to maintain your older dog’s health and remain informed of the possible senior dog health problems that commonly arise.

Helping Your Older Dog Overcome Health Problems

As an aging dog inevitably develops health problems, you can help alleviate many of the symptoms and keep your pet comfortable. The most basic thing you can do is simply pay more attention to your senior dog making sure you’re aware of the changes taking place. Brush your dog’s coat daily and ask your vet if there are special shampoos to help with her skin and coat. Spend time rubbing your hands on his coat feeling for bumps or lesions.

Be patient when your dog needs a little extra time walking up the stairs or jumping up into the car. Make sure you make regular visits to your vet and stay current on vaccinations. Brush your senior dog’s teeth regularly and have them professionally cleaned occasionally. Provide regular exercise while also making adjustments needed for your dog as she ages.

As your older dog slows down, you might have to adjust her diet to help compensate for the reduction of energy for both her weight as well as her coat and her circulation system.

Not only must the overall calorie intake be reduced, but you can also feed your senior dog specially formulated foods made to fit their particular needs. Try to purchase the most expensive, best quality food you can afford and avoid greasy table scraps.

It’s an inevitable fact that dogs age, but you can make a difference in helping your older dog overcome health problems. Keep in mind that in the last eighty years or so the average lifespan of dogs has increased from 7 years to 12. Expanding your knowledge and paying attention to your dogs health will help ensure your dog lives a long and comfortable life. www.articlesauce.com”Article Source/a: http://www.articlesauce.com http://largedogbreedz.com” target=”_blank”Large Dog Breed/a Information – For more a href=”http://largedogbreedz.com/your-large-dogs-health/dog-health-conditions/older-dog-health-problems.html” target=”_blank”older dog health problem/a related information.

Tapeworms are also scientifically named Dipylidium caninum. They are just one of the five kinds of worms that pets may get infested with.

The “tapeworm” name comes from the shape of this parasite. This worm looks like a flat tape that measure between 50and 70cm in length. This tapeworm gets attached to the intestines of the dog.

There he feeds on the animal. The good thing about this tape worm is that humans can not get it just from direct contact with the pet. The pets usually get this parasite up by eating infected fleas. So, it is better to prevent and treat the pet for flees form time to time.

Diagnosis and Symptoms

The tapeworms are quite easy to detect and they are common. Some of the main symptoms include loss of weight and appetite, a bit of nervousness, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

The tapeworms in dogs are sometimes visible. You can still find some worms or pieces of them around the anus and in fecal matter. If the feces look like having some rice in them, that means the dog is infested.

The Treatment

Before treatment, first come prevention measures. Make sure the dog is treated from fleas from time to time. This will make sure the dog doesn’t get infested. The treatment for the tapeworms has two stages of severity. The early stage, less severe, means the dog is still full of energy and is playful. In this case, a simple over the counter de-worming treatment will easily clean out the parasite in many cases.

A very common medicine for treating the tapeworms is the Praziquantel (Droncit) and can be bought from the local pet stores.

During the later and the severe stage of tapeworms#146; infestation, the pet has signs of acute distress, is quite inactive and has lost some weight. Take the pet straight to the professional veterinarian. In this case, the vet will give the pet an injection or a liquid-based chemical to be ingested.

No matter what the stage is, you have to pay attention to the feces and make sure there are no tapeworms there. Even after treatment, notice the feces and monitor any symptoms of infestation that may appear.

Never forget that the best way to get away from a tapeworm infestation is to prevent them from reaching your dogs. Besides constant fleas#146; treatment, make sure you don’t leave your dog in places where the living conditions are not right or there are no people to take care of the pet.

Also make sure your pet mingles with other pets that are healthy.
